You don’t look forty. You look a sort of well-preserved sixty.

Friday, May 29th, 2009

It’s the most nail-biting poll so far, but in the end victory is sweet (see what I did there). The film chosen by YOU for the 3rd instalment of Arty Farty Film Party is… A Taste of Honey!

A Taste of Honey

A Taste of Honey

Dealing with issues well before its time, A Taste of Honey is a tale of inter-racial pregnancy, homosexual friendship, and the struggle of one girl gradually becoming a woman.

We’ll be opening doors at 7pm, and will be starting the film at 7:30pm on the dot. Remember the seating capacity of the venue is only 31 so make sure you get there on time to avoid standing up or worse still - peeping through the curtains from out on the street!

There will be £6 bottles of red and white wine available to purchase, as well as a range of lovely bottled beers, popcorn, nachos and penny sweets. Oh and it’s 100% free.

See you there!

The third party…

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

It’s almost time for the third Arty Farty Film Party, and we’ve gone for a real gritty number this time round! Oh and thank you to all that came down for Leon at the last event, it was a great evening and we couldn’t have fit any more people in if we tried!

So yes - back to the upcoming party. After several requests from a fork wielding bunch of film-buffs (*ahem), we’re going for 1960’s kitchen sink dramas.

They are the reason for the phrase “it’s grim up north”; compelling, gritty, dark, depressing social realism. The genre made history in highlighting the plight of the working man in a class-obsessed Britain.

Remember: with the new poll you can vote for an existing film, as well as adding your own choice of film, and if you really think one of the other film suggestions is complete pap you can ‘bury’ it (which is like knocking one vote off). To cast your vote just click on the square to the right of the film title you want to vote for.

The vote closes at 9am, Friday 29th May.

THE POLL FOR THIS PARTY IS NOW CLOSED

I am already grown up, I just get older.

Friday, May 1st, 2009

You’ve been voting furiously over the last few days and I’m super happy to announce that the film you’ve chosen for the 2nd Arty Farty Film Party next week is… Leon!

Leon

Leon

Leon was the big screen break for the wonderful Natalie Portman, who was just 12 years old when it was filmed. It’s one of those films that make you happy that people start acting young, especially when they’re as talented as Miss Portman.

We’re starting a little earlier this time around - 7pm doors with a view to starting the film at 7:30pm. The seating capacity of the venue is only 31 so make sure you get there early enough!

Hope to see you all there. Remember entrance is 100% free, and there’s beer, wines and tasty treats to purchase if you want some refreshments during the film.
