The ninth party…

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

Hi there chaps, we hope you’re all doing well and not too distraught at having to wait two whole weeks for this film night. Damn that September for having 5 Wednesdays in it, September is nothing but trouble thank god its over eh?

Were storming back in with an emotional line up for the ninth party, we want you guys to vote for your top most titillating 00’s Sports Dramas. I can’t be bothered to get off my bum in the cold so lets watch some other guys get physical!

The eighth party….

Monday, September 7th, 2009

Hello folks - thanks to you guys who braved the weather and managed to made it down to Groundhog Day last week. Hooray for Bill Murray… and even Andie McDowell who wasn’t quite as annoying as usual.

For the eighth party we’re stepping things up a notch and taking a trip into the future. For the eight Arty Farty Film Party we’d like you to vote for your favourite… 80’s vision of the future! All that spandex and those shoddy stage sets really capture a future I’d like to be a part of.

Now we will be doing a party dedicated to 80’s sci-fi in the not to distant future so don’t worry about having to stick all your Star Wars and other 80’s space films in this genre… they will get their day!

I want to see all those films that predict how our lovely earth will supposedly be altered… well, by now in a lot of cases! Golly didn’t the year 2000 seem awfully exciting back then…

Remember: with the new poll you can vote for an existing film, as well as adding your own choice of film, and if you really think one of the other film suggestions is complete pap you can ‘bury’ it (which is like knocking one vote off). To cast your vote just click on the square to the right of the film title you want to vote for. Also - you can vote for every film if you care to, but only one vote per film. Just to help you out if you’re feeling torn!

The vote closes at 12pm, Friday 11th September.

THE POLL IS NOW CLOSED - BLADE RUNNER HAS WON!

I’m a god. I’m not *the* God… I don’t think.

Friday, August 28th, 2009

Wow - I know I love Bill Murray, but I had no idea that near enough (!) everyone in Manchester loves him too!

What an exciting poll, it’s been real fun watching it this week. I thought Rushmore was going to run away with it but then Ghostbusters stormed through and at the very end there was a tie-break. That’s right, a tie-break for the first time in Arty Farty Film Party history - thanks to whoever made the deciding vote, it’s all because of you that the the film being screened at Wednesday’s Film Party is… Groundhog Day!

So come on down next Weds 2nd September and have a good old giggle along with Bill and his brilliant face. Along with Bill and his brilliant face. Along with Bill and his… ok ok i’ll stop now.

Doors open at 7pm, and we’ll be starting the film at 7:30pm sharp at An Outlet on Dale Street. Remember there’s a very limited seating capacity (30) so make sure you get there on time to avoid disappointment.

There will be £6 bottles of red and white wine available to purchase, as well as a range of lovely bottled beers, popcorn, nachos and penny sweets. And as always it’s 100% free.

We hope to see you there!

The seventh party…

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

Thanks to everyone that came down for the Virgin Suicides, it was the busiest party we’ve had yet - and what a great film!

For the seventh party we’ve got what I think is the best genre we’ve done thus far. We’re aware that the last few films have been a little heavy going (which is great, but we all need a laugh now and again right?) - so for Arty Farty Film Party #7 we’d like you to vote for your favourite… Bill Murray film! There’s no decade restriction, and before anyone gets pernickety (what a great word) Bill Murray transcended ‘actor’ to become a ‘genre’ with the release of Rushmore. Look it up in the encyclopedia Brittanica if you like, it’s all in there!

We’ve pretty much included every Bill Murray film going in the poll. There are other films he’s in, but where he plays a more minor role which haven’t been included - but if you really want it and you think others will too just whack it in there!

THE POLL IS NOW CLOSED - GROUNDHOG DAY HAS WON!

This one who’s blind. She’s the one that can see.

Saturday, August 1st, 2009

This weeks poll has been a real nail-biter! Carrie was winning up until the last day, but after pipping her at the post we’re please to announce that the film being screened at Wednesday’s Film Party is… Don’t Look Know!

70’s horror is one of our favourite genre’s, and occult films are some of the best. They’re the ones that generated the media hysteria, and had people bordering on psychotic episodes in their seats - a testement to the power of cinema!

Doors open at 7pm, and we’ll be starting the film at 7:30pm sharp at An Outlet on Dale Street. Remember there’s a very limited seating capacity (31) so make sure you get there on time to avoid disappointment.

There will be £6 bottles of red and white wine available to purchase, as well as a range of lovely bottled beers, popcorn, nachos and penny sweets. And as always it’s 100% free.

We hope to see you there!

My sex change operation got botched; my guardian angel fell asleep on the watch; now all I got is a Barbie doll crotch; I’ve got an angry inch!

Monday, July 20th, 2009

Thanks for all your votes over the weekend. We’ve really enjoyed watching this one play out, and are pleased to announce that the film being screened at this Wednesdays (22nd July) gender-bending Arty Farty Film Party is… ‘Hedwig & The Angry Inch’.

Hedwig

It’s a great film, and with the tagline ‘An anatomically incorrect rock odyssey’, I can’t think of anything better for our gender-bending theme!

NotPartOf Arty Farty Film Party!

Thursday, June 4th, 2009

We are proud to be doing an Arty Farty Film Party event as part of the Not Part Of festival!

In the spirit of NotPartOf we’ve gone for a celebration of all things northern. So the genre is… British Northern Films! There is no decade restriction this time round, so feel free to suggest any film you want - as long as it’s set north of Birmingham!

The third party…

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

It’s almost time for the third Arty Farty Film Party, and we’ve gone for a real gritty number this time round! Oh and thank you to all that came down for Leon at the last event, it was a great evening and we couldn’t have fit any more people in if we tried!

So yes - back to the upcoming party. After several requests from a fork wielding bunch of film-buffs (*ahem), we’re going for 1960’s kitchen sink dramas.

They are the reason for the phrase “it’s grim up north”; compelling, gritty, dark, depressing social realism. The genre made history in highlighting the plight of the working man in a class-obsessed Britain.
