This could work out real good for me and Jean and Scotty.

Thanks to everyone who came down to our bonfire night special for Serpico. We hope you enjoyed your sparklers!

Last week’s poll was a 2 horse race, and I think we had an all time record for number of votes placed (into the 70’s!). But we’re happy to announce that the winner (by a single vote) is Fargo!

Fargo

Fargo

After several requests we decided to have a Coen brothers’ night, and Fargo really is the marmite of their repertoire. It won 2 Oscars and has a storming cast including William H. Macy, Frances McDormand and the legendary Steve Buscemi - so come down tomorrow, Weds 18th November - and make your own mind up if you haven’t already seen it!

Doors are at 7pm, film at 7:30pm sharp at An Outlet on Dale Street. Remember there’s a very limited seating capacity (30) so make sure you get there on time to avoid disappointment.

There will be £6 bottles of red and white wine available to purchase, as well as a range of lovely bottled beers, popcorn, nachos and penny sweets. And as always entrance is 100% free.

We hope to see you there!

The twelfth party…

Written by Arty Farty Film Party on November 10th, 2009

Hi there guys, thanks to you who came down last week and got yourself a sparkler in the interval. Serpico, good film worth watching if only to see Al Pacino in flares and a V neck! Not his best look.

Next week at the 12th Arty Farty were going to be celebrating the coolest bro’s on the block in our Coen Brothers evening . It will be a tough job we know, how to choose just one film out of all the gems they have produced over the years?

Remember: with this poll you can vote for an existing film, as well as adding your own choice of film, and if you really think one of the other film suggestions is complete pap you can ‘bury’ it (which is like knocking one vote off). To cast your vote just click on the square to the right of the film title you want to vote for. Also - you can vote for every film if you care to, but only one vote per film. Just to help you out if you’re feeling torn!

The vote closes at 12pm, Friday 13th November.

You know what they say, don’t you? If you love a man’s garden, you gotta love the man!

So there was a pretty even spread of votes this time, and the winner by a single vote is Serpico!

The Wrestler

Serpico

A year after her made his mark on the big screen with The Godfather, Al Pacino returned with a gritty portrayal of an honest NY cop being turned against by his corrupt peers. Pacino’s acting is smooooooooth and it’s directed by the legendary Sidney Lumet, a winning combo you really shouldn’t miss.

Come on down to our pre-bonfire night Arty Farty Film Party this Weds 4th November to celebrate the failure of the gunpowder plot. We’re also going to have a sparkler party in the interval, so make sure you bring a pair of gloves with you!

Doors are at 7pm, film at 7:30pm sharp at An Outlet on Dale Street. Remember there’s a very limited seating capacity (30) so make sure you get there on time to avoid disappointment.

The eleventh party…

Thanks to everyone who came down to our super-scary Halloween party. I for one loved seeing A Nightmare on Elm Street on a big(ish) screen, and even though I’m a ‘grown up’ now, it still scared the pants off me like it did when I was 13! We hope you liked the pumpkins and the creepy music too!

Next Wednesday is our 11th party, and as it falls the night before bonfire night we thought we’d pay homage to Mr Fawkes by screening your choice of 1970’s conspiracy film! The 70’s was an absolutely cracking decade for conspiracies - and we can’t think of a more fitting decade (Watergate anyone…?) to showcase political scandal at it’s height!

Well can you believe it - it’s our tenth party! It seems like only yesterday you were watching Ferris Bueller’s day off while we were panicking about the skipping DVD. Ah memories!

So yes back to the tenth party. Given it’s coming up to the end of October and all, we thought we’d throw a Halloween themed Arty Farty Film Party! We’ve gone for a classic genre spread across two decades, so get ready to scare yourself silly with your choice of 70’s / 80’s Slasher Horror!

Thanks for your votes folks. Coach Carter was pipped at the post by the one, the only… The Wrestler!

I’m really looking forward to seeing this as I missed it at the cinema. And I can’t live out the rest of my life without seeing a good hours worth of Mickey Rourke in fluorescent yellow spandex now can I?

All are welcome this Weds 7th October to join us at Arty Farty Film Party and marvel at Mickey’s physical prowess - and no I’m not talking about his rather erm… ‘interesting’ face. Doors are at 7pm as per, and we’ll be starting the film at 7:30pm sharp at An Outlet on Dale Street. Were storming back in with an emotional line up for the ninth party, we want you guys to vote for your top most titillating 00’s Sports Dramas. I can’t be bothered to get off my bum in the cold so lets watch some other guys get physical!

They don’t advertise for killers in the newspaper. That was my profession. Ex-cop. Ex-blade runner. Ex-killer.

Written by Arty Farty Film Party on September 13th, 2009

Thanks to everyone that voted last week. We knew from the outset that there was a clear favourite for this one. After all, when it comes to visions of the future nothing quite hits the spot like… Blade Runner!

Blade Runner

Blade Runner

And what’s even more exciting is that we’re going to have both the original and the directors cut at our disposal, so we’re going to put it to the audience to decide which one we screen with a show of hands.

So come join us this Weds 16th September to have a peek into the future and figure out if you like what you see. Doors are at 7pm as per, and we’ll be starting the film at 7:30pm sharp at An Outlet on Dale Street. The eighth party….

Written by Arty Farty Film Party on September 7th, 2009

Hello folks - thanks to you guys who braved the weather and managed to made it down to Groundhog Day last week. Hooray for Bill Murray… and even Andie McDowell who wasn’t quite as annoying as usual.

For the eighth party we’re stepping things up a notch and taking a trip into the future. For the eight Arty Farty Film Party we’d like you to vote for your favourite… 80’s vision of the future! All that spandex and those shoddy stage sets really capture a future I’d like to be a part of.

Now we will be doing a party dedicated to 80’s sci-fi in the not to distant future so don’t worry about having to stick all your Star Wars and other 80’s space films in this genre… they will get their day!

I want to see all those films that predict how our lovely earth will supposedly be altered… well, by now in a lot of cases! Golly didn’t the year 2000 seem awfully exciting back then…

I’m a god. I’m not *the* God… I don’t think.

Written by Arty Farty Film Party on August 28th, 2009

Wow - I know I love Bill Murray, but I had no idea that near enough (!) everyone in Manchester loves him too!

What an exciting poll, it’s been real fun watching it this week. I thought Rushmore was going to run away with it but then Ghostbusters stormed through and at the very end there was a tie-break. That’s right, a tie-break for the first time in Arty Farty Film Party history - thanks to whoever made the deciding vote, it’s all because of you that the the film being screened at Wednesday’s Film Party is… Groundhog Day!

So come on down next Weds 2nd September and have a good old giggle along with Bill and his brilliant face. Along with Bill and his brilliant face. Along with Bill and his… ok ok i’ll stop now.
